LISTEN TO YOUR TATTOOER, NOT YOUR FRIENDS
Note: We use two different types of aftercare
Recovery Aftercare Derm Shield
Derm Shield is a sanitary adhesive tattoo wrap that depending on the size or style of your tattoo, may stay wrapped with the same wrap for 6 days after being tattoo’d, or you may be initially wrapped directly after tattooing, and then your tattoo is re-wrapped 24 hrs later, and you keep that wrap on for 5-6 days, after which you take the wrap off jump in the shower and wash your tattoo extremely well with dye and perfume free liquid hand soap(read instructions below referring to the washing and drying procedures), after wich you can keep your skin moisturized with H.G.I. tattoo aftercare ointment, or dye and perfume free moisturizing lotion.
H.G.I. TATTOO AFTERCARE
You will need the following products to correctly care for your tattoo: dye and perfume free antibacterial liquid hand soap (i.e. Softsoap, Dial), H.G.I. healing ointment, and dye and perfume free lotion (i.e. Lubriderm), clean towel every time you shower. DO NOT USE ANY OTHER PRODUCTS UNLESS DIRECTED OTHERWISE BY YOUR TATTOOER!
Step 1
Approximately one hour after your procedure is finished and wrapped up, you need to unwrap and wash your tattoo, unless it is late in the evening (in such cases sleep with the wrap and remove it before you shower in the morning). Washing by hand or shower consists of: using as warm of water as you can handle first rinse your tattoo, then put some soap in your hand and lather it up (do not apply liquid soap directly to tattoo without lathering), wash your tattoo well, don’t be gentle, but don’t scrub it. Now rinse your tattoo with again as warm of water as you can handle and make sure its rinsed well, now for ten seconds run as cold of water as you can get out of your tap (while rubbing your tattoo), this will help close the pores. Now use a clean towel (and always use a clean towel) and gently dry it off.
Rule to remember: wash tattoo last and dry it first.
Step 2
After you have dried your tattoo, apply your HGI ointment. When you put it on use it very sparingly (on average a pea sized dob for a four to five inch square area, a little goes a long way). Rub it in really well, your skin should feel tacky but moisturized after rubbing it in. Use healing ointment as often as needed, do not let your tattoo dry out, you can use HGI throughout the entire healing, and always wash your tattoo before each application. Use HGI after tattoo is done healing, after showers and whenever tattoo seems dry throughout the day None of the following for 28 days: swimming, sauna, tanning (even spray tan), direct sun light, sun block, shaving, make-up.
